Over the past few years, Penn State’s Advanced Vehicle Team has teamed up with sponsors to build the next generation prototypes of automobiles. These vehicles have the potential to radically change the way we look at cars and how we use them. Each vehicle shows the progression in the team’s understanding of what a hybrid vehicle is and combined years of effort put into each vehicle. Based on the technology available at the time of creation, each car has its own advantages and disadvantages.
As of August 2008, the Penn State Advanced Vehicle Technology Team has been involved in the current EcoCAR Challenge. It is a competition between 17 schools throughout North America, sponsored by GM and the US Department of Energy.
