Year One Finals

Year 1 of the EcoCAR competition took place in Toronto, Canada from June 7th to June 12th. Events included presentations on the team’s Electrical, Mechanical, Modeling and Controls work as well as a trade show display and a presentation simulating GM’s Project Initiation Approval Request process.
The Penn State team placed 7th overall with first place going to Ohio State. The team didn’t go home empty handed though. The team received the Donald Streit Sportsmanship award, as well as Best Social Networking, and Third place overall in Outreach. The team also earned a Second place commendation at the competition’s opening skit night with their airband rendition of Ghostbusters.
With the first year of competition over, the team will now look to transferring it’s modeling and simulation work into a physical reality. The team eagerly awaits this coming August when components and the vehicle itself will start showing up. Year two of competition will be focused around a Mule vehicle and will take place in the desert at Yuma. Team members have their work cut out for them but we’re ready for the challenge!
Updates from the competition can be found on the website’s blog. Check out our YouTUBE video of Year 1 Competition recap.
