2003 Results
For 2002-2003, the Penn State team worked to refine the Explorer, adding emissions control equipment donated by Argillon, updating the vehicle controls system, and further lightweighting the truck. The same Post-Transmission, Pre-Transfer Case Parallel Hybrid configuration was kept from last year, as this design proved to be robust and reliable. At the 2003 FutureTruck competition, Penn State finished 5th out of 15 universities, received the prestigious “Built Ford-Tough” award, and took first place in the oral presentation.
